Congratulations to Dr. Steve Maren who will be joining a group of prominent scientists on the Scientific Council for the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation.
Each year, the Scientific Council volunteers their time to review more than 1,200 grant applications, recommends the best ideas from scientists around the world, and mentors NARSAD Young Investigator Grantees.
Led by Dr. Herbert Pardes, the founding and current President of our Scientific Council, the council reviews and selects the most promising research ideas with the greatest potential to lead to breakthroughs. The Council is composed of 168 active world-renowned scientists and 7 Emeritus members including 2 Nobel Prize winners, 4 former directors of The National Institute of Mental Health as well as the current Director, 4 recipients of the National Medal of Science, 13 members of the National Academy of Sciences, 26 chairs of psychiatric departments, and 55 members of the Institute of Medicine. In 30 years, the Scientific Council has reviewed more than 25,000 grant applications. This represents more than $19 million estimated in volunteer contribution of service.
