Dear Friends of the Psychology Department,
We’ve seen remarkable advancement in the Department in the last several years and are excited to share some of those advancements with you. We have hired eight new faculty members in the last two years, building on department and university initiatives to establish a core of researchers using cutting-edge brain science to understand health and mental health issues. This year we welcome the Fightin’ Texas Aggie class of 2020, which is the largest class of freshmen ever to join the department as majors. This class will benefit from our newly renovated technology-enhanced classrooms and new options to select from three course tracks focused on skill development relevant to entering graduate programs, health fields, or organizations.
Our 51 faculty members contribute to the educational experience of over 1,300 majors and 900 minors, as well as almost 90 doctoral students. Our faculty are recognized nationally and internationally as leaders in their fields and have received numerous awards and considerable grant support for their research and teaching. The combination of our scholars’ expertise and innovative research programs provides an excellent venue for students to develop their intellectual and professional skills inside and outside of the classroom. The department maintains a community clinic that integrates teaching, research, and service by leading the development of empirically validated assessment and treatment to improve the lives of Texans with need for mental health services.
There are multiple opportunities to be involved with the department, including attending talks and events, or donating to our continued development of excellence in research and teaching. We hope that you’ll join us.
Best, Heather C. Lench
